Eight and three quarter inches is a fraction smaller than the 9-inch plates around it, and in practice that is the difference between a plate a small child can carry with two hands and one they cannot. It is a sensible size for a party where the food is served and carried rather than plated at a table.
The print is a city street scene — buses, diggers, road signs and traffic — rather than a single vehicle. That gives it more life than a plate with one truck on it: a child looks at it twice, and a two-year-old will find a bus on it while an adult is cutting something up.
This is the only Transportation Time piece and the only dinner plate on the shelf. The rest of a matching table has to be built from plain colors: yellow, red and a bright blue from the color shelf carry the same idea for less.
